Sumburgh airport, 25 miles south of Lerwick, is open 7 days a week, and direct flights operate from Aberdeen (1hr), Inverness (1hr), Edinburgh and Glasgow(both 1hr 30 mins) with Loganair. Connections are available from other airports in the UK, Europe and around the world.

In the summer months, direct flights operate between Sumburgh and Bergen, Norway.

If you want to travel to Shetland by sea, Northlink Ferries operate a daily overnight service from Aberdeen to Lerwick, calling in at Kirkwall 3 times weekly Journey time is 12 – 14 hours. As all travel is overnight you can gain 2 days on your Shetland holiday!
You can either travel with your own car or as a foot passenger if you have travelled to the departure port with another method of transport.
Inter-island travel
Direct Flights, on behalf of Shetland Islands Council, provides inter-island flights between Tingwall airport, near Lerwick, and the islands of Fair Isle, Foula, Outer Skerries and Papa Stour.
